Thanks for visiting our web site.

The name 5South essentially represents who we are; five dudes from the South Bay community of Eastlake. We play a wide variety of music. The majority of the music on our Set List is danceable, upbeat favorites (including some in Spanish) that people recognize and love. We are responsible, reliable guys who enjoy making music.

John Damstra - Bass

John grew up in Chula Vista and graduated from Bonita Vista High School. Go Barons! John has been playing the bass since high school and college. He was in not-quite-so-popular college bands such as "The Spill", "Hanover Fist", "The Good 'ol Boys", and "Hot, Wet 'n Bothered" while attending UCSB. Go Gauchos! John now enjoys maintaining the "low expectations" of holding down the groove for 5South Band.

David Inumerable - Vocals, Guitar and Keyboard

At the age of 41, Dave and his singing/guitar playing buddy, Chuck Martin, were in Boston for a business trip. They went bar hopping and saw a 2-man band "rock" a small pub. The crowd was singing along and dancing. Chuck told Dave, "If you take guitar lessons, we can be as good as these guys in a year." Dave was skeptical, but took Chuck's advice and got private guitar lessons. Two years later, Dave organized a "jam session" at his house with another co-worker, Scott Young (drums), his brother-in-law, Paul Segura (guitar), and his neighbor, John Damstra (bass). After that, the boys agreed to meet every Wednesday. :"5South" has been playing together ever since. Dave grew up listening to all types of music, but especially loves the old school funk. He plays the guitar, keyboard, and helps with vocals.

Chuck Martin - Lead Vocals and Guitar

Chuck has been playing guitar and singing since the age of 15. Until approached by his buddy Dave, he was perfectly content to play guitar and sing solo. Dave proposed forming a band as a hobby. The hobby has now turned into a passion with the 5South Band. Though more challenging than singing and performing solo, it is also much more rewarding and exciting. Our music and energy makes people of all ages want to dance and have a great time at any party event.

Paul Segura - Lead Guitar

Paul has always loved music - especially guitar music. He's always had a thing for Flamenco music, but he was also heavily influenced by classic rock groups like Santana. But it was probably his love for surf music by The Ventures that inspired him to get a guitar and learn to play while he attended Castle Park High School. In the years since then, he slowly taught himself to play a variety of styles. Playing guitar with 5South has been a satisfying and rewarding side job for Paul - one that he hopes to keep for years to come.

Scott Young - Drums

In 1992, Scott’s son, Ian (then 10 years old) broke his wrist playing football. To help rehabilitate his injury, Scott bought Ian a drum set. Ian played this drum set for years, but eventually became the keyboard player for “Stranger” (www.strangerband.com). Like most guys, Scott couldn’t resist banging on those drums. One drum beat lead to another and this eventually became Scott’s daily workout routine. Scott enjoys practicing and gigging with the boys from 5South. Scott put buying a Harley on hold and loves the “midlife crisis” of being the drummer of the band.
